STOCK POSITION OF FOODGRAINS IN
RAJASTHAN GENERALLY
COMFORTABLE
The situation of
movement of foodgrains in Rajasthan has improved and barring some
districts like Jalore and Banswara, the stock position is comfortable.
This has been brought out in the drought situation report of the
Agriculture Ministry for the week ending today. As against the
planned movement of 21.18 lakh MT of foodgrains to the nine drought
affected States for the current month, movement of 4.15 lakh MT
of foodgrains was undertaken up to June 8, 2003. 46.97 lakh MT
of foodgrains has been utilised by the States. Over 33 thousand
water tankers were deployed in the drought affected states. 2,448
cattle camps were also organised.
For the week ending
today, Railways undertook free transportation of 813 wagons of
water in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Railways have so far transported
137758 wagons of water to Rajasthan and 7482 wagons to Gujarat.
Railways have also transported 8077 wagons of fodder to Gujarat
and 4335 wagons to Rajasthan. The Department of Drinking Water
Supply has sanctioned Rs.26.5 crore from the 5 per cent component
for calamity hit areas under the Accelerated Rural Water Supply
Programme to severely drought affected districts of Orissa.
The severely
affected States are Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhatisgarh, Gujarat,
Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa and Tamil Nadu.
