STATE POWER MINISTERS' CONFERENCE INAUGURATED

Power Minister Shri Anant G. Geete has urged State Governments to reduce Transmission & Distribution losses and theft to help achieve the Tenth Plan target of 41,000 MW. Shri Geete was speaking at a one-day Conference of State Power Ministers here today. The Power Minister said that with the Tenth Plan already in its second year it is essential that work on the identified projects for the Tenth Plan commence immediately. Delayed projects would mean consequent delays, he added.

Shri Geete said that the APDRP has been fine-tuned to incentivise the process of reforms in electricity distribution. The success of this programme would strengthen the State Electricity Boards/Utilities which would result in improving the financial condition of the State. The successful implementation of the programme would lead to technological and organisational changes and improved sub transmission and distribution network resulting in reducing technical and commercial losses, improving reliability and quality of power and increasing the net power availability to the consumers, he added.

Power Ministers, Secretaries, Chairmen of SEBs of various States and UTs are participating in the Conference.

The issues for discussion at the Conference, organised by the Power Ministry, are Capacity Addition, Rural Electrification and Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme.
