STATES AGREE TO REDEFINE VILLAGE
ELECTRIFICATION
POWER
MINISTERS' CONFERENCE CONCLUDES
State Power Ministers
have arrived at a consensus to change the definition of village
electrification as 10 per cent of the village household being
electrified. The consensus was arrived at the State Power Ministers'
Conference here today. At present if one pole in a village is
connected to the grid, the village is considered to be electrified.
States have also
reiterated their commitment to the target of 'Power for All Villages
by 2007' and have agreed to augment their efforts towards the
goal of 'Power for All by 2012'.
