SAFETY ASPECTS OF RAIL COACHES
The Railways have
embarked upon improved safety features of coaches including air
conditioned coaches.
The safety features
include crashworthiness of passenger coaches to minimize damage
to the passenger area of the coach in the event of an impact,
anti climbing features with center buffer couplings to avoid piling
up of coaches in case of accidents, fire retardant upholstery
and furnishing to prevent spread of fire, modern disc type microprocessor
controlled brake system for superior braking and emergency opening
windows to provide exit following accidents.
Other safety measures
in vogue cover keeping air conditioned coaches in locked condition
from inside during night, opening of doors from inside in case
of exigencies, and making suitable improvements in design of air
conditioned and non-air conditioned coaches regularly by indigenous
development.
