SAFETY ASPECTS OF RAIL COACHES


The Railways have embarked upon improved safety features of coaches including air conditioned coaches.

The safety features include crashworthiness of passenger coaches to minimize damage to the passenger area of the coach in the event of an impact, anti climbing features with center buffer couplings to avoid piling up of coaches in case of accidents, fire retardant upholstery and furnishing to prevent spread of fire, modern disc type microprocessor controlled brake system for superior braking and emergency opening windows to provide exit following accidents.

Other safety measures in vogue cover keeping air conditioned coaches in locked condition from inside during night, opening of doors from inside in case of exigencies, and making suitable improvements in design of air conditioned and non-air conditioned coaches regularly by indigenous development.
