WEST – EAST SADBHAVNA MOTORCYCLE
RALLY FROM WAGHA BORDER TO TAWANG FLAGGED OFF ON WAY BACK TO JALLANDHAR
A west-east Sadbhavna
Motor Cycle Rally 2003 which was flagged off from Wagha Border
on May 15, 2003 arrived in Delhi yesterday after covering a long,
arduous and hazardous journey of 7,500 kms. The rally was flagged
off on way back to Jallandhar by Addl Director General NCC, Air
Vice Marshal TS Chhatwal, here today. This adventurous excursion
from Wagha border in Punjab to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh has
been undertaken by the Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh
National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorate.
The rally was organised
with the aim of spreading the message of National Integration,
peace and harmony and to inculcate a spirit of adventure amongst
the youth of the country. Twenty NCC cadets drawn from various
colleges of Jallandhar, Phagwara, Hoshiarpur, Nawashahar and Kapurthala
were led by Major AS Parmar. The motorcycles, ten in number were
of all makes and capacities. In addition, administrative staff
comprising of 11 JCOs, NCOs and civilian staff accompanied the
rally to provide administrative backup enroute.
The rally was meticulously
planned and executed right up to the last detail in liaison with
the local civil administration, NCC and Army units/formations
enroute. The NCC Cadets have displayed a rare show of courage
and enthusiasm specially while negotiating the arduous and mountainous
terrain of Arunachal Pradesh. Cadets also visited important historical
places enroute all eight states and the union territories. The
rally was warmly welcomed by the various local educational institutions
and civil and military dignitaries enroute.
Additional Director
General NCC Air Vice Marshal TS Chhatwal congratulated the cadets
for their excellent performance during the past 28 days. This
rally will finally terminate at Jallandhar on June 13, 2003.
