EMPLOYMENT OF PERSONS WITH DISABILLITIES
IN CENTRAL GOVERNMENT HIGHER THAN THE STATUTORY LIMIT
The employment of
persons with disabilities in various ministries / departments
of the Central government against posts identified as suitable
for their recruitment is higher than the statutory three percent.
66 Ministries/ Departments of the Government of India have more
than six percent representation of persons with disabilities with
reference to the identified posts in Group A, B, C as follows:

In respect of 28
Ministries/Departments, the information pertains to position as
on 1.1.2000 and for the remaining Ministries/Departments, the
same pertains to 1.1.99.
In public Sector
Undertakings (PSUs), also more people with disabilities are employed
in all Group except Group A.:

The Persons with
Disabilities (Equal opportunities Protection of Rights and Full
Participation) Act, 1995 enjoins upon appropriate governments
to ensure reservation of 3 per cent vacancies in identified posts
for persons with disabilities of which 1 per cent each is to be
reserved for persons suffering from (I) blindness or low vision;
(ii) hearing impairment and (iii) locomotor disability or cerebral
palsy.
While Department
of Personnel & Training (DOPT) and Department of Public Enterprises
(DPE) monitor the implementation of the statutory reservation
in respect of the Central Ministries/Departments and public sector
undertakings respectively, the Ministry of Social Justice &
Empowerment also reviews the position regularly in meetings of
the Central Coordination Committee and the Central Executive Committee.
