COMMEMORATIVE COINS IN THE MEMORY
OF MAHARANA PRATAP
Government of India
is releasing commemorative coins in the memory of Maharana Pratap,
in denominations of Rs.100, Rs.10, and Re.1. The Re.1 coin will
be for circulation.
These commemorative
coins will be released by the Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari
Vajpayee at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi tomorrow. The function will
be presided over by the Vice President, Shri Bhairon Singh Sekhawat.
Hundred Rupees
coins will have a Standard weight of 35 grams, containing Silver
50%, Copper 40%, Nickel 5% and Zinc 5%, Ten Rupees-coin having
Standard weight of 12.5 grams, containing Copper 75% and Nickel
25% and One Rupee Ferritic Stainless Steel coin-having Standard
weight of 4.85 grams, containing Iron 82% and Chromium 18%.
The obverse face
of One Hundred Rupees, Ten Rupees and One Rupee coin shall bear
the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar with the legend "lR;eso
t;rs" inscribed below, flanked on the left upper periphery
with the word "Hkkjr" in Hindi and on the right
upper periphery flanked with the word "INDIA" in English.
It shall also bear the denominational value "100", "10"
and "1" respectively in International Numerals below
the lion Capitol flanked on the left lower periphery with the
word ":i;s" in Hindi and right lower periphery
with the word "RUPEES" in English.
The reverse face
of the coin shall bear the portrait of "MAHARANA PRATAP"
flanked on the left upper periphery with the words "egkjk.kk
izrki" in Hindi, and on the right upper periphery "MAHARANA
PRATAP 1540-1597" in English. The figure "2003"
shall be shown below the portrait in international numerals which
shall be common for One Hundred Rupees, Ten Rupees and One Rupee
coin.
This new Rupee
1 coin is a legal tender as provided in the Coinage Act, 1906.
The existing One Rupee Coins in circulation shall also continue
to be legal tender.
