INFLAMMABLE SUBSTANCES IN TRAINS

Regular checks are conducted in trains to detect persons carrying inflammable articles.

Besides regular checking, special drives are conducted at stations as well as in trains against persons carrying inflammable substances. In addition, publicity campaigns are also undertaken to educate the public about the hazards of carrying such substances.

Instructions already exist for taking these preventive steps which are also reiterated from time to time. The Zonal Railways undertake drives adhering to such instructions. However, any dereliction of duty on the part of the staff is viewed seriously for taking suitable punitive action.

This information was given by the Railway Minister Shri Nitish Kumar in a written reply to a question from S/Shri Vilas Muttemwar and Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi in the Lok Sabha today.
