MECHANIZED WASHING OF TRAIN COACHES
The Railways
have planned to set up five automatic coach washing plants in
the country.
In this connection,
the first global tender for procurement of these automatic coach
washing plants is under process at the Central Organization For
Modernization of Workshop (COFMOW)
This follows the
Prime Minister’s announcement on Independence Day 2002, that the
Government would launch a nationwide cleanliness drive, which
was later reiterated by the President in his address to the joint
Session of both the Houses of Parliament in February this year
stating that the first such drive would be launched on Railways.
Meanwhile, a pilot
project has been started at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station
in New Delhi where mechanized cleaning contracts have commenced
since November, 2002. Concerted efforts have been initiated to
make this a model station in cleanliness. Similar contract has
also been given for the New Delhi Station in April 2003.
