UNITED PEOPLES' DEMOCRATIC SOLIDARITY AND SECURITY FORCES OPERATING
IN ASSAM AGREE TO EXTEND THE SUSPENSION OF HOSTILITIES FOR ONE
MORE YEAR
The United Peoples’
Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) and the security forces operating
in Assam have agreed to extend the suspension of hostile operations
between the militant outfit and the forces for a further period
of one year up to 31st July, 2004. The suspension of
hostilities has been in operation since August 1, 2002.
The Agreement
was reached after a meeting held in Guwahati between the representatives
of Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of Assam and the UPDS
on July 9, 2003. The meeting was held to review the progress of
restoration of peace during the period of suspension of hostile
operations.
