RAILWAY PRODUCTION UNITS PERFORM WELL DURING APRIL-MAY-2003
All the six
railway production units performed well during April-May 2003
with Rail Wheel Factory (RWF), Bangalore exceeding the target.
The Chittaranjan
Locomotive Works (CLW) met the target by producing 9 electric
locomotives. The Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), Varanasi and the
Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala met the target by rolling
out 14 diesel locomotives and 160 coaches respectively.
The RWF produced
17768 wheels exceeding the target of 16300 wheels and 7852 axles
exceeding the target of 6449 axles.
There was, however,
shortfall in the production of coaches at the Integral Coach Factory
(ICF), Chennai and re-building of diesel locomotives at the Diesel
Component Works (DCW), Patiala when they produced 97 coaches and
re-built 11 diesel locomotives as against the target of 108 coaches
and 12 diesel locos respectively. The shortfall in cumulative
production of coaches at ICF is on account of accumulated arrears
and will be made good in coming months.
During May 2003,
CLW, DLW, ICF, RCF and DCW met the target by rolling out five
electric locos, nine diesel locos, 62 coaches, 80 coaches and
6 diesel locos, whereas RWF exceeded the target of 8649 wheels
and 3422 axles by producing 9583 wheels and 4420 axles.
During the month,
a total of 1076 wagons (eight wheelers) were produced as against
the target of 1100 wagons.
