EXPANSION AND MODERNISATION OF MUZAFFARPUR AND BARAUNI THERMAL POWER PLANTS

The responsibility for the expansion, modernisation and renovation of Barauni and Muzaffarpur Thermal Power Plants lies with the Bihar State Electricity Board.

An order transferring the assets and liabilities relating to Tenughat Vidyut Nigam Ltd. (TVNL) to the State of Jharkhand was issued on 31.10.2002.

Work on the Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Project expansion Phase-I of 1000 MW (2x500 MW) has started. Phase-II (1x500 MW) is also planned for execution. For the Barh Super Thermal Power Project of 1980 MW (3x660 MW), bids have been invited for the supply of main plant and equipment.

There is a proposal for a joint venture between the Railways and the NTPC for setting up of 1000 MW (4x250 MW) power project at Nabinagar.

Bihar is entitled to its due share of power from Central Generating Stations.

This information was given by Smt. Jayawanti Mehta, Minister of State for Power in a written reply to a question by Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh in Lok Sabha today.
