COMPLETION OF NHDP WORKS

Rajya Sabha

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has estimated completion of 45 per cent of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) works by December, 2003.

The Planning Commission periodically reviews the progress of NHDP and suggests measures to complete the project as per assigned target.

Out of 8603 hectares of land estimated to be acquired for ongoing projects under NHDP, 6412 hectare of land (74.5%) had already been acquired as on 30th June, 2003. The process of acquisition of remaining land (2191 hectares) is in progress.

The procedure for appraisal for sanction of project by multilateral funding agencies takes some time. Efforts are made through discussion and negotiation to reduce the time taken to the extent possible.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik in a written reply to a question of Smt. Bimba Raikar in Rajay Sabha today.
