FLOODS AFFECT STATES
The Lok Sabha was
informed that the current South-West monsoon has badly affected
the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh,
Kerala, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Rajasthan and West Bengal. The
damage was of varying magnitude.
As per the Scheme
for financing the relief expenditure, the State Governments are
required to take measures for rescue and relief out of the corpus
of Calamity Relief Fund, which is contributed to between Government
of India and the State Governments in the ratio of 75:25. The
Government of India further supplements the efforts of the concerned
State Government by providing additional financial and logistic
support where required, as per the Scheme for financing the relief
expenditure. Assistance is provided to the States in wake of calamity
of a severe nature from the National Calamity Contingency Fund
(NCCF) after following the set procedure.
On the request
of the State Government, Army and Central Para Military Forces
were deployed to assist the civil authorities in severely affected
areas in the States of Assam, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal.
