SAIL REBUILDS SCHOOLS-CUM-CYCLONE
SHELTERS IN ORISSA
The Rourkela Steel
Plant (RSP) of the Steel Authority of India Limited(SAIL),has
so far constructed 156 primary schools and 7 high schools in the
area ravaged by 1999 super cyclone in Orissa. SAIL was assigned
the construction of 168 primary schools and 59 high schools funded
by the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund. With a view to protecting
life and property in the event of any recurrence of such cyclone
in future,RSP undertook the construction of these multi-purpose
school-cum-cyclone shelter centres. The rest of the school buildings
will be completed soon.
The schools-cum-multipurpose
centers were located in Derabish, Marshagahi, Rajkanika, Mahakalpara,
Pattamundai, Gadpur, Rajnagar and Kendrapada blocks of Kendrapada
District. SAIL extended relief and rehabilitation assistance to
the affected persons by supply of food items, clothing and material
for construction of houses. Officials and doctors of SAIL rendered
voluntary service for helping the poor and the destitutes.
