IMPROVING SAFETY OF ROLLING STOCK

The Railways have rationalized examination pattern of goods trains. Accordingly, increased emphasis is laid on ensuring that there is no skipping of examination. This is intended to improve safety of wagons.

Besides, a crew friendly vigilance control device to keep the driver alert while on run has been introduced in 4000 horse power diesel locomotives. Other enhanced safety features in these locos are more reliable braking system with computer control and back up dynamic brake system, which can bring the train to a stop if normal braking fails. The driver’s cab is ergonomically designed and user-friendly ensuring fatigue –free driving.

In addition, twin beam headlights have been developed for better illumination of superior reliability of locomotives. Locomotives have been using conventional incandescent lamps in the headlight of locomotives. Fitment of powerful headlights in the locos is intended to enhance safety of rail services.
