FUNDS RELEASED TO TAMIL NADU FOR WASTELANDS DEVELOPMENT & RURAL
DRINKING WATER
Ministry of Rural
Development has released funds to the state government of Tamilnadu
for rural drinking water and wastelands development.
An amount of Rs.2434.50
lakh has been released to Tamilnadu Water and Sanitation Board,
Chennai towards first installment of funds against the provisional
allocation of Rs.4869.00 lakh for 2003-2004 under Accelerated
Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP). As per the Guidelines for
implementation of Rural Water Supply Program, 15% of funds under
ARWSP are provided for quality related problems and 5% for taking
sustainability measures under Sub-Mission. States have been requested
to delegate powers for management of Rural Water Supply Schemes
through the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) as per the Constitution
of India. Since the release of first installment during the current
financial year 2003-04 has been delayed, it has been decided that
the second installment will be released on utilization of 50%
instead of 60% of the total available funds, other conditions
for release will remain same.
The release is being
made for execution/completion of schemes to provide safe drinking
water facilities to rural habitations and schools under the Centrally
Sponsored ARWSP.
Under Integrated
Wastelands Development Project ; Rural Development Ministry has
released Rs.103.58 lakh to two districts of Tamilnadu during 2003-04.
Vellore and Namakkal districts get Rs.52.91 lakh and Rs.50.67
lakh respectively for Wastelands Development.
