NINE APPAREL PARKS TO COME UP


The Government has decided to establish nine Apparel Parks at Tronica City and Kanpur (UP), Surat (Gujarat), Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Ludhiana (Punjab), Bangalore (Karnataka), and Tirupur and Kanchipuram (Tamil Nadu). Foundation Stone for the first Apparel Park is being laid today at Surat by the Chief Minister of Guajarat, Shri Narendra Modi, today. The work on the second one at Tirupur will start next month.

The Apparel Park at Surat will be constructed in an area of 57 hectares with a total project cost of Rs. 42.55 crore. It will have 111 large and small units and is expected to generate employment for about 65,000 persons.

The "Apparel Park for Export" scheme, envisaged by the Ministry of Textiles, aims at giving focussed thrust for the setting up of apparel manufacturing units of international standards at potential textile growth centres. The Apparel Parks will fulfil all international specifications on labour and environment. It will provide major buyers overseas a single – stop market in India.

The Central assistance for Apparel Parks would be to the extent of 75 per cent of the capital expenditure on infrastructural facilities subject to a maximum of Rs 10 crore and the rest by the State Government /agency . The Centre will also provide a sum up to Rs. Five crore for setting up an effluent treatment plant and multi-purpose hall for display and marketing of products. The Centre will also provide a grant up to 50 per cent of the cost of the training facility created in the Park up to a maximum of Rs. Two crore.
