HARIN PATHAK THE NEW MINISTER OF STATE FOR HOME


Shri Harindra Kumar Ramachandra Pathak (Harin Pathak) has taken over as the new Minister of State for Home in place of Shri Ch. Vidyasagar Rao who will be the Minister of State for Commerce. Shri Pathak was the Minister of State for Defence Production and Supplies.

Born on the 20th July, 1947 at village Ratanpur in Panch Mahal District of Gujarat Shri Pathak has a long and distinguished public life since college days and held prominent positions as a student union leader and subsequently in politics. He started his career as a teacher. After joining politics he was elected as a Member of the Lok Sabha from Ahmedabad city in 1989 and won this seat consecutively in 1991, 1996, 1998 and in 1999. Shri Pathak also participated in the World Conference of Inter-Parliament Union held at Ottawa, Canada and also visited Germany, USA and France. He represented India at the 44th Commonwealth Conference in Wellington, New Zeeland in 1998.

Shri Pathak was a successful Corporator of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation for about 17 years from 1976. He made notable contribution for the development of the Ahmedabad city and was also jailed during emergency of 1975-76.

Shri Harin Pathak was a Member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) constituted to go into the Stock Scan in 1992 and was again nominated as a Member of the JPC constituted to prove the UTI related controversy. In the last 12 years as a Member of the Lok Sabha he served in the Estimates Committee, Textile Committee, Chemical and Fertilisers Committees, Finance Committee and Civil Aviation Committee.
