GOVERNMENT TO FACILITATE OPERATION OF SHORT HAUL AIR OPERATION : SRIPAD NAIK

Government will not spare any effort in making short-haul Air operations a success in India. This was stated by the Minister of State for Civil Aviation Shri Sripad Y. Naik here today while delivering the keynote address at the presentation by the Russian Aviation and Space Agency. The Minister said, there is a shortage of small aircraft in the country. There are at least 50-60 routes which require 20-30 seater planes to meet their air connectivity requirement.

The Minister said, many potential tourist and commercial destinations remain deprived of air link on account of shortage of small aircraft. Shri Naik said, the three domestic airlines are able to provide air link to major cities and towns. In this scenario, he said, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has to create suitable environment for the growth of private sector activity in order to cater to public demands.

Shri Naik said, the Government has initiated a number of steps for providing encouragement to the non-scheduled operators. Necessary facilitations are being provided at the airports. He said, traffic needs and demands are being assessed in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism. The Minister felt that there is a need for leadership to emerge from the private sector brining investment into this sector.

The presentation is sponsored by Russian Aviation and Space Agency and AVIAEXPORT, a leading exporter of Russian Commercial aircraft. The presentation is covering the major league of Russian design and manufacturing aviation enterprises with the commercial planes and helicopters.
