Central Warehousing
Corporation has paid a dividend of Rs. 7.49 crore during the period
2001-2002. A cheque for this amount was presented to Shri Sharad
Yadav, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution
by Shri K.C. Tyagi, Chairman, CWC here today. The Corporation
has made a net profit of Rs. 90.22 crore as against Rs. 73.33
crore during the previous year thus, registering a growth of 23.71
per cent during 2001-02.
The Corporation
together with 17 state Warehousing Corporations has a storage
capacity of 273 lakh MTs, of which the Corporation alone operates
a capacity of 91.78 lakh MTs. It has a network 471 ware houses
all over India. After the amendment of the Warehousing Corporations
Act, the Corporation has plans for setting up of warehouses abroad
and also to have strategic alliance/joint-ventures in the field
of warehousing.
The corporation
has declared a dividend of 20 per cent on its paid up capital
and dividend on Government’s share is Rs. 7.49 crore. With this
dividend payment the corporation has paid back a total amount
of Rs. 90.42 crore to the central government against Rs. 37.42
crore invested by it in the share capital of CWC. The Corporation
earned a profit of Rs. 90.72 crore in 2001-2002 compared to Rs.
73.33 crore the previous year marking a growth in profit of 24
per cent approximately. It has also achieved the highest turnover
in the report period amounting to Rs. 380 crore as against Rs.
340 crore in the year 2000-01.
Accepting the
dividend cheque Shri Yadav urged streamlining of procurement and
storage operations by Food Corporation of India and CWC.
