PRELIMINARY REPROT ON BANGLORE EXPRESS ACCIDENT NEAR PAGIDIRAI SATION IN A.P.


Shri R.P.Agrawal, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Ministry of Civil Aviation(Govt.of India) South Central Circle, Secunderabad, has held a statutory inquiry into the derailment of train No.7685 Kacheguda-Banglore Express which occurred on 21.12.02 between Pendekallu and Pagidirai Stations on Pendekallu – Gooty B.G.Section in Guntakal Division of South Central Railway. The accident resulted in death of 19 passengers, grievous injuries to 33 passengers and simple injuries to 43 passengers. The site is situated in Kurnool district in the State of Andhra Pradesh.

According to the provisional findings of the Commissioner of Railway Safety, the accident most probably occurred due to tampering with the track by way of cutting of Left Hand side rail by hacksaw and there after pushing its Pagidirai end inside by an unauthorized person other than railway staff.
