During December 2002,
the Railways transported 46.01 Million Tonnes (MT) of revenue
earning goods which was 2.16 million tonnes more than the target.
This was also 3.54 million tonnes more than the goods transported
during the same period last year.
In December, 2002
the Railways transported 20.63 MT of Coal, 3.67 MT of Raw Materials,
1.16 MT of Iron & Steel, 1.85 MT of Iron Ore for Export, 3.82
MT of Cement, 3.94 MT of Food Grains, 2.39 MT of Fertilizers and
2.89 MT of Petroleum, Oil and Lubricant (P.O.L.) and 5.66 MT of
Other Goods.
The Railways’ freight
traffic earnings during December, 2002 were a total of Rs.2344.66
crores. Out of this Rs.1010.13 crores were from Coal, Rs. 100 .05
crores from Raw Material, Rs.114.92 crore from Iron and Steel,
Rs. 69.13 crores were from Iron-Ore for Export, Rs. 169.56 crore
from Cement, Rs.277.93 crores from Foodgrains, Rs. 109.35 crores
from Fertilizers, Rs.223.91 crores from P.O.L and Rs.269.68 crores
were from other goods.
