All India Consumer
Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers
on base 1986-87=100 for December, 2002 when compared to November,
2002 decreased by 2 points each to stand at 321 (Three hundred
and twenty one) for Agricultural Labourers and 324 (Three hundered
and twenty four) for Rural Labourers.
In case of Agricultural
Labourers 13 states reflected decrease ranging between 2 to
9 points, indices of 5 States showed increase between 1 to 16
points and indices of 2 States remained constant, Tamil Nadu,
with index at 356 points topped the index table whereas Orissa
was at the bottom with index at 294 points.
In case of Rural
Labourers 13 States reflected decrease in indices between
1 to 7 points, 6 States showed increase between 1 to 15 points
and index of one State remained constant. Tamil Nadu was at the
top of index table with index at 354 points whereas Orissa was
at the bottom with index at 294 points.
Punjab experienced
sharpest decrease of 9 points in respect of Agricultural Labourers
whereas in case of Rural labourers, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab
recorded sharpest decrease of 7 points each. On the other hand,
Tamil Nadu recorded maximum increase of 16 and 15 points in respect
of Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers respectively.
Point to point
rate of inflation based on CPI-AL decreased from 3.19% in November,
2002 to 2.88% in December, 2002 whereas in case of CPI-RL, it
increased from 3.16% in November, 2002 to 3.18% in December, 2002.
Respective rates of inflation during December, 2001 were 2.97%
and 2.61%.
