This has been done
as part of the strategy to achieve a goal of 5000 MW Wind Power
capacity addition during the next five years. Focus will be on
accelerated commercial development through industry participation
and private investments supported by a conducive policy. This
will include fiscal and promotional incentives from Government
and soft loans from Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency;
attractive policies in States for grid connection and sale of
electricity generated from wind power projects; establishment
of a strong local manufacturing base; technical support by the
Centre for Wind Energy Technology; and detailed wind resource
assessment to identify further potential sites in various States.
A total wind power
capacity of 1702 MW has so far been installed in the country.
1950 million units of electricity was generated from Wind Power
Projects during 2001-02. Average cost of generation per unit is
Rs.2.25 to Rs.2.75.
