Durgapur Steel Plant
(DSP) of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has installed
recently the electromagnetic stirrer (EMS) built at a cost of
Rs.5 crore. It has been installed inside the mould tube of DSP's
both six strand casters and is helping in enhancing the quality
of the continuous cast steel. The EMS will help DSP in catering
to the special steel segment by producing forging quality steel,
engineering steel for the automobile sector and other varieties.
The plant is considering
setting up a three lakh tonne wire rod mill project. The mill
will help DSP to convert its surplus billets into value added
finished products. SAIL is looking at improving its critical productivity
parameters by 10 per cent which would give a benefit of Rs. 1000
crore in value terms.
