SPORTS MINISTRY CLOSES INQUIRY AGAINST ATHLETE SUNITA RANI


The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has decided to close the High Level Committee constituted to inquire into the circumstances responsible for athlete Sunita Rani testing positive for dope during the Busan Asian Games – 2002. The decision has been taken in view of the International Associations of Athletic Federations (IAAF) and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) having cleared Ms Sunita Rani of all charges of doping and the OCA deciding to reinstate her medals. According to an order of the Ministry issued here today, this has been done with the approval of the competent authority. The High Level Committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of Shri S.S. Sharma, former Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports on November 14, 2002.
