RS. 2.19 CRORE RELEASED TO KARNATAKA AND HARYANA FOR WATERSHED DEVELOPMENT


The Ministry of Rural Development has released Rs.2.19 crore to the State Governments of Karnataka and Haryana for the Watershed Development Projects. Ministry has released Rs.86.111 lakh as central share of assistance for planning and development of watershed projects for implementation of Desert Development Programme (DDP) to Koppal and Raichur districts of Karnataka State.

Rs.133.86 lakh has been released for watershed projects under DDP to Jhajjar and Narnaul (Mohendergarh) districts of Haryana for the year 2002-03.

The State Governments should release its share to the districts, within a fortnight of the date of release of the Centre share.

The Desert Development Programme has been conceived as a long-term measure for restoration of ecological balance by conserving, developing and harnessing land, water, livestock and human resources.
