India
and Uzbekistan held high-level discussion in the area of education,
and agreed to cooperate specially in the fields of information
technology and distance education, here last evening.
The Uzbek delegation
was led by the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education,
Mr. SS Gulyamov, and the Indian delegation by Dr. Murli Manohar
Joshi, Minister for Human Resource Development. Both the delegations
included experts and officials from universities and technical
institutes.
During discussions,
Dr. Joshi offered India's assistance in expanding distance education,
and providing manpower and content support in qualitative as well
as quantitative upgradation of Uzbekistan's technical infrastructure.
Before the talks,
the Uzbek delegation visited IIT Delhi, Software Technology Park
Gurgaon and the Indira Gandhi National Open University to study
Indian achievements in technical and distance education.
