Twelve applications
seeking permission to uplink 24-hour news channels have been
received in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Out
of these, seven have been granted permission while the remaining
five are under examination.
Giving this information
in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, today the Minister
of Information and Broadcasting, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad said
that those granted permission included Aaj Tak, Sun News, Udaya
News, Surya News, Teja News, Jain TV, Punjab Today, Zee News,
Sahara Samay National & International, Sahara Samay UP,
Sahara Samay MP, Sahara Samay Bihar, Sahara Samay Mumbai, Sahara
Samay Rajasthan, Sahara Samay NCR and NDTV.
The applications
of TV Today Network Ltd. for its India Today English News Channel,
NDTV World Ltd for NDTV World, Independent News Service Pvt.
Ltd for India TV, Star News Broadcasting for Star News and BBC
are under examination.
