The
Government is considering to revise the rates of maintenance
allowance and other norms of Post Matric Scholarship Scheme
for students belonging to Scheduled Castes in view of the rising
cost of books, school fees, food etcetra. The Social Justice
and Empowerment Minister Dr. Satyanarayan Jatiya stated this
in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today. He said that the
Ministry of Tribal Affairs is also processing the matter for
similar revision for Scheduled Tribes students. He said that
under the Scheme the students at present are provided monthly
maintenance allowance varying between Rs.425/- to Rs.150/- for
hostlers and Rs.190/- to Rs.90 for day scholars. They are also
provided reimbursement of compulsory non-refundable fees, study
tour charges, thesis typing/ printing charges, book allowance
for students pursuing correspondence courses and some additional
provisions for visually handicapped students for complete duration
of the course.
