NATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION COUNCIL

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) assesses and accredits universities/university level institutions recognised by UGC and colleges affiliated to recognised universities, with an objective of helping them to work continuously to improve upon the quality of teaching and research. The minimum eligibility criteria for assessment is that an institution should have completed five years of standing or two batches of pass out students.

Assessment is a performance evaluation of an institution and/or its units and is accomplished using defined criteria such as curricular aspects, teaching, learning and evaluation, research consultancy and extension, infrastructure and learning resources, student support and progression, organisation and management, healthy practices etc.

This information was given by the Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Dr. Vallabhbhai Kathiria in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
