The Government
is committed to setting up of a National Judicial Commission
which would inter-alia draw up a Code of Ethics for Judges of
the Supreme Court and High Courts.
The Political parties
have been requested to communicate their views on the question
of setting up of a National Judicial Commission for appointment
of Judges in the Supreme Court and High Courts and evolve a
Code of Ethics for Judges. As setting up of the Commission would
involve amendment of the Constitution of India, it is not feasible
to indicate a time-frame in this regard.
This information
was given by the Minister of Law and Justice and Commerce and
industry, Shri Arun Jaitley in a written reply to a question
by Shri Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi in the Lok Sabha today.
