PROGRESS IN SUTLEJ-YAMUNA LINK CANAL

The Government of Punjab, which had executed the works so far and under whose control the works are vested at present, has been requested to provide the details of works, the revised costs involved and the construction schedule. The reply is awaited. As such, no definite date for restarting the work on this canal or its completion has been decided.

The Government of Punjab is being continuously reminded to furnish the requisite information for the preparation of a contingency plan for completion of the canal. Sutlej-Yamuna link canal has not been completed so far as directed by the Supreme Court for which Haryana State is agitating over the delay in completion. However, a token provision has been tentatively kept now in the Budget Estimates of the Union Government for 2003-2004.

This information was given by the Union Minister of State for Water Resources, Smt. Bijoya Chakravarty in the Rajya Sabha today.
