JURISDICTION OF NEW RAILWAY DIVISIONS REVISED


The Ministry of Railways has issued a Notification revising the jurisdiction of 23 Railway Divisions and fixing the jurisdiction of eight newly created Divisions with immediate effect.

While the area of jurisdiction of Nanded, Agra, Guntur, Raipur, Ranchi, Pune, Rangia and Ahmedabad, the eight newly created Divisions has been fixed, the area of jurisdiction of the 23 existing Divisions revised, the important being Hubli, Guntakal and Jhansi.

As for Jhansi Division, 133 Km. long Agra-Palwal and 40 Km. long Palwal-Tughlakabad routes have been transferred to newly created Agra Division. At the same time, 91 Km. long Manikpur-Naini section of Jabalpur Division has been brought under the jurisdiction of Jhansi Division. The total area of Jhansi Division is now pegged at 1461 Route Kilometres (RTKMs) from the earlier 1543 RTKMs. In the case of Guntakal Division, its area of jurisdiction has been brought down from 1573 RTKMs to 1397 RTKMs. Accordingly, 137 Km. long Donkonda-Nandiyal section has been transferred to Guntur Division, 65 route Km. Hospet-Bellary section and 23 Route Kilometres(RTKMs) Toranagallu-Ranjitpura section transferred to Hubli Division. Besides, 49 RTKMs Guntakal-Bellary metre gauge section has been transferred to Hubli Division.

The jurisdiction of Hubli Division on newly created South-Western Railway Zone has been revised. Accordingly, 1365 RTKMs long existing jurisdiction has been revised to 1076 RTKMs residual jurisdiction. The 328 Km. long Pune-Miraj-Kolhapur section has been transferred to Pune Division and 49 RTKMs Guntakal-Bellary metre gauge section to Guntakal Division. The 65 RTKMs Hospet-Bellary section and 23 RTKMs Toranagallu-Ranjitpura section have been transferred to Hubli Division.

Jurisdiction of other Divisions at Jabalpur, Mumbai, Sholapur, Allahabad, Kota, Jaipur, Izatnagar, Vijayawada, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Bilaspur, Delhi, Chakradarpur, Adra, Alipurduar, Vadodara, Rajkot, Ajmer, Ratlam and Bikaner have also been revised and their area of jurisdiction re-fixed.

The Notification seeks to modify the original Notification of July 4, 2002, under which seven new zones were created by carving out of the existing nine Zonal Railways. Of these, two new Zones, East Central Railway at Hajipur and North Western Railway at Jaipur have become fully functional with effect from October 1 last year and the remaining five will become functional from April this year.
