The Ministry of
Textiles will establish an Institute of Textile Management,
named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, at Coimbatore in Tamil
Nadu. The Institute seeks to create a cadre of professionals
to manage various segments of the textile industry. It will
undertake selected applied research studies and their application
in textile management; particularly those in respect of integration
of locally produced materials, mass production, improved product
design and international marketing. The Institute will facilitate
technical assistance to artisans, craftsmen, manufacturers,
designers and exporters of fashion products. It will also provide
up-to-date information on textile-related issues to the industry
through research and publication of literature.
The Union Government
will provide the initial capital investment for setting up the
Institute. The Centre will also meet a substantial part of the
Institute’s recurring costs.
The Minister
of Textiles, Shri Kashiram Rana, said at the first meeting of
the Board of Governors at Coimbatore on Thursday that the Institute
would act as a centre of excellence in textile management education.
He called upon the Institute management to attract the younger
generation for its courses so as to bring the best talent to
the textile industry.
An Executive
Committee has also been set up for the speedy implementation
of the programmes of the Institute.
