Vizag Steel Plant
(VSP), a public sector undertaking of the Steel Ministry recorded
an excellent sales turnover of Rs. 576 crore in January 2003
with a growth of 68 per cent over the turnover of Rs. 344 crore
in January last year. With this the cumulative sales turnover
was of Rs.3850 crore during April'02-January'03, showing a growth
of 23 per cent over the same period of last year. Sales performance
of the plant during this period has been the best since inception.
The domestic sales have improved by 20 per cent and the exports
recorded a growth of 55 per cent.
The plant is
poised to surpass rated capacities in all the production areas
i.e. hot metal, liquid steel and saleable steel. It produced
3.29 million tonnes of hot metal, 2.80 million tonnes of liquid
steel and 2.52 million tonnes of saleable steel during April-January
2002-03 recording a growth of 16, 11 and 13 per cent respectively
over the corresponding period last year. During January 2003,
it produced 3, 60, 012 tonnes of hot metal, 90, 559 tonnes of
bar mill products, 84, 486 tonnes of wire rod mill products,
2, 98, 363 tonnes of saleable steel and 2, 59, 572 tonnes of
finished steel products, the best performances for any months
since inception. The company also achieved best techno parameters
in labour productivity, energy conservation, water conservation
and power conservation and blast furnace productivity.
