The Commission
vide its Press Note dated 11th January, 2003 announced
the programme for holding of general election to constitute
a new Legislative Assembly in the States of Himachal Pradesh,
Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura.
Accordingly,
poll in all assembly constituencies of the above mentioned States
are to be held on 26th February, 2003.
However, due
to inclement weather condition prevailing in the areas covering
1-Kinnaur (ST), 54-Bharmour (ST) and 55- Lahaul & spiti
(ST) assembly constituencies of the State of Himachal Pradesh
at this particular season and also after taking all material
circumstances into account including the representations received
from various political parties and individuals and also the
report of the Chief Electoral Officer, Himachal Pradesh and
the State Government, the Commission has decided to postpone
the date of poll in respect of the above said three assembly
constituencies in the State of Himachal Pradesh to 8th
June, 2003 (Sunday).
