The Prime Minister
of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will launch National Manuscripts
Mission to preserve and unlock precious treasure in our manuscripts
here at Vigyan Bhawan on 6th February, 2003. The
mission being undertaken by Department of Culture will locate
and identify manuscript collections in India and abroad to bring
out scientific, intellectual, literary and spiritual knowledge
contained in manuscripts. The mission was announced by the Prime
Minister on 15th August, 2002.
The Department
of Culture will conduct exclusive surveys to locate manuscripts
in different Indian languages, document them through descriptive
cataloguing prepare a national database and promote their ready
access through digitalization and publication.
