WORKSHOP TO DEVELOP NATIONAL STRATEGY AND FINALISING CENTRALLY SPONSORED SCHEME FOR E-GOVERNANCE BEGINS

A two-day Workshop to Develop a National Strategy and Finalizing Centrally Sponsored Schemes for e-Governance opened here today. Senior officers from States and the Central Government are participating.

In his keynote address the Secretary, Information Technology, Shri R.R. Shah said it is time to think big, start small, and scale fast for e-governance. He said e-governance is an automation of the processes which will improve efficiency, bring transparency and reduce delays in decision making. It may also help end corruption, malpractices and government functioning. He said the three stages in e-governance is i) breaking the barriers; ii) introduction of single window system; and iii) to have access to services by citizens anytime anywhere. Making a presentation on national action plan for e-governance Mr. Shah said that the guiding principles for national action plan should be to go into mission mode for integrated activities, define and target outcomes and not inputs and use private sector technical and financial resources wherever possible and government resources whenever necessary.

The Workshop is a part of the Prime Minister’s announcement on Independence Day that there is a need to have a comprehensive programme to accelerate e-governance at all levels of the Government to improve the efficiency, effectiveness in functioning and bring transparency and accountability in the system.
