The Steel Authority
of India Limited (SAIL), a public sector undertaking of the
Steel Ministry has recorded 36 per cent growth in exports and
10 per cent growth in production of saleable steel during April
2002 to January 2003 than the same period last year. During
January 2003 the production grew by 7 per cent and exports by
37 per cent compared to the January 2002.
The export growth
was the result of SAIL's fresh inroads into China, Philippines,
Spain and Sri Lanka. Among its integrated steel plants, Rourkela
recorded 20 per cent growth in production of saleable steel
during these ten months followed by Durgapur 10 and Bhilai 7
per cent.
