REVIVAL OF SSP AND ASP

The financial and business restructuring package for Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) approved by the Government in February 2000, envisaged formation of Joint Venture for Salem Steel Plant (SSP) and Alloy Steel Plant (ASP), Durgapur with a view to reviving these plants. While pursuing with the divestment process, efforts are also on to reduce the losses through increased capacity utilisation, economic utilisation of ASP-SSP synergy for short term gains and reduction in inventory and manpower.

This information was given by the Minister for Steel, Shri B.K. Tripathy in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
