COMMITTEE TO LOOK INTO PROBLEMS OF SPONGE IRON INDUSTRY

Sponge Iron Manufacturers Association has represented regarding serious problems of availability of right grade of iron ore at affordable prices, inadequate availability of non coking coal of right grade and quality, restricted supply of natural gas below the contracted quantities and consistent threat of its major price increase. To look into iron ore related issued faced by sponge iron industry, the Government has constituted a Committee comprising of representatives from the industry association, Ministry of Mines, Government of Orissa & Jharkhand and public sector iron ore mining companies.

This information was given by the Minister for Steel, Shri B.K. Tripathy in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
