STATE GOVERNMENTS RESPONSIBLE FOR
MANAGEMENT OF CHILDREN HOMES

The State Governments/
Union Territory Administrations have responsibility of providing
for management of children homes and repatriating the children
back to their families in coordination with other State Governments/
Union Territory Administrations concerned. The repatriation is
sought to be carried out by State Governments through their various
Departments with the cooperation of voluntary organizations working
in the area. Government of India provides financial assistance
to State Governments/Union Territory administrations under its
Scheme. `A Programme for juvenile Justice’ for establishment and
maintenance of children homes. The Model Rules under the Juvenile
Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000, lay down
a minimum level of standard to be maintained in these children
homes. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has been
stressing upon the States/ UTs, the need to bring about improvement
in the conditions of various homes set up under the Act.
