NIFT FASHION SHOW TO MARK SILK WEEK
STARTING TOMORROW
Exhibitions,
buyer-seller meet and fashion shows are some of the highlights
of the ‘Silk Week’ beginning from tomorrow. The three day event
is being organised to focus on the various aspect of the sector
including the problems faced by the weavers and the producers.
Weavers, producers, designers, exporters, buyers, experts, and
scientists have been invited to participate in the event.
As part of the Silk
Week, a technical seminar has been arranged in which experts in
silk weaving, silk knits, marketing and sericulture will highlight
recent developments in these fields. A buyer-seller meet and exhibition
will also be held in which 25 stalls will showcase new and exclusive
products of silk. Stalls will also be set up by the National Institute
of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Weavers Service Centre, National
Institute of Design (NID) and Central Silk Board to present recent
advances in processing technology, design development and product
diversification in silk.
In order to highlight
the value addition by fashion and design to silk textiles a fashion
show will be organised. The show will feature both traditional
and modern range of silk products including sarees and garments.
One of the new product ranges that will be featured will be the
collection of silk garments developed on ‘Vanya’ or wild silk
varieties by Central Silk Board in collaboration with NIFT.
Coinciding with the
Silk Week a conference of State Ministers and Secretaries dealing
with Sericulture will be held to review policy and programmes
in the light of emerging WTO imperatives.
The three day event
will be inaugurated by the Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission
Shri K. C. Pant tomorrow. The fashion will be held at Hotel Ashok
on the 16th December and the conference of the state
ministers and secretaries also takes place on the same day.
