G-20 MEETING PROGRESSING WELL


Twenty countries are participating in the meeting of the G-20 at Brasilia in Brazil. Shri Arun Jaitley, Commerce & Industry Minister, who is leading the India delegation to the meeting, met the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Mr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, yesterday and expressed his views on the way forward in the WTO negotiations and highlighted India’s concerns, especially in agriculture and on the Singapore issues. The meetings of the G-20 are continuing with constructive and positive engagement by all the participants. The meeting is expected to come out with a Joint Communiqué of the G-20 at Brasilia later today.

Shri Jaitley also met the European Union (EU) Trade Commissioner, Mr. Pascal Lamy, today. This was his first interaction with Mr. Lamy, post-Cancun.
