CENTRE RELEASES Rs 5.9 CRORE FOR MADRASA MODERNISATION

The Central Government has provided assistance of Rs. 539.11 lakh for madrasa modernisation to state governments, as compared to Rs. 3.04 lakh in 1993-94.

The Central Government has been implementing the scheme of financial assistance for modernisation of Madrasa education since 1993-94. Its objective is to encourage traditional institutions like Madrasas and Maktabs to teach modern subjects such as Science, Maths, English, Hindi and Social Studies alongside the traditional curriculum. Under the scheme, salary of two teachers for Madrasa is provided to teach modern subjects, besides one-time grants for purchase of Science and Maths kits and for book-bank for strengthening of libraries. From the Tenth Plan, it has been merged in the unified scheme of area intensive and Madrasa modernization programme.
