FACILITIES FOR INSPECTION OF FOODGRAINS BEFORE LIFTING

RAJYA SABHA

Ample opportunities are provided to the officials of the State Governemnts/UT Administrations to inspect the stocks prior to lifting from the FCI godowns.

The officers of the State Governments and the Ministry pay surprise checks of the FPSs, to oversee the quality of foodgrains being distributed through TPDS. The officers of the Department designed as ‘Area Officers’ for monitoring the TPDS work in the respective State also undertake visits to the storage depots and the FPSs, during their visit to the State to check the quality of foodgrains being issued.

Only Fair Average Quality (FAQ) foodgrains conforming to PFA standards and free from insect infestation are issued to State Governments/UTs or their authorised nominees from the FCI depots for the distribution under TPDS.

Instructions have been issued to all the State Governments/UT Administrations that an officer not below the rank of Inspector be deputed to check the quality of foodgrains before lifting from the FCI godowns.

This information was given in the Rajya Sabha today by Shri Subhash Maharia, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in a written reply.
