JAITLEY APPROVES 15 PROPOSALS OF FOREIGN TECHNOLOGY COLLABORATION/FRANCHISE AGREEMENTS


The Commerce & Industry Minister, Shri Arun Jaitley, has approved 15 proposals of foreign technology collaboration/franchise agreements based on the recommendations of the Project Approval Board (PAB) and 9 proposals for grant of Industrial Licence based on the recommendations of the Licensing Committee (LC).

The PAB in its meeting held on 20.11.2003 under the Chairmanship of Shri Rajeeva Ratna Shah, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, had recommended these proposals for approval.

The approved proposals include technical collaboration agreement of M/s Tata Motors Ltd. with M/s AVL List GmbH, Austria and M/s Delphi Diesel Systems SAS, France for design and development of Euro IV compliant engine , with EOBD emission norms, for passenger cars. The engine developed under this agreement will help Tata Motors improve their exports, especially in the European Markets in which the Euro-IV emission norms will come into force from 1st January, 2005. The proposal for technology agreement of M/s Finolex Industries Ltd. with M/s. Oxy Vinyls, LP, USA and M/s Aker Kvaerner, Netherlands, for manufacture of Vinyl Chloride Monomer was also approved. The improved technology uses less energy, reduces emissions and improves the conversion rates of feed stock. The proposal of M/s Spicer India Ltd., for extension of their technical agreement with M/s Dana Corporation, USA which will enable the Company to manufacture, inter-alia, Driveshafts for super heavy vehicles and maintenance free Driveshafts was also included in the list of approved cases.

The Licensing Committee (LC), in its meeting held on 20.11.2003, under the Chairmanship of Shri Rajeeva Ratna Shah, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, had recommended 9 proposals for grant of Industrial License and amendments in existing ones. The main sectors/areas of the approvals include textiles, explosives, petroleum and material handling equipments.
