INDIA, GUYANA TO SET UP CHAIRS
ON CONTEMPORARY STUDIES
The setting up of
chairs on contemporary studies has been envisaged under the Educational
Exchange Programme (EEP) signed between Guyana and India, here
today. The "Programme" includes proposals for twinning arrangements
between institutions of higher learning in the two countries and
also for providing of scholarships for further education in recognised
institutions of higher learning. Signed on the occasion of the
visit of H.E. Mr. Bharrat Jagdev, the President of the Cooperative
Republic of Guyana, the signatories to the EEP were Dr. Murli
Manohar Joshi, Union Minister for Human Resource Development from
the Indian side and Mr. Clement J. Rohee, Minister of Foreign
Trade and International Relation, Guyana.
The EEP includes
proposals for organisation of training programmes for educational
administrators and teachers and exchange of academic and other
administrative staff as well as scholars, teachers, experts and
students. It also envisages organisation of Joint Research Programmes,
Publications, Joint Conferences, Exhibitions and Seminars as also
the exchange of research material, teaching aids and demonstration
material. The setting up of educational/ training institutions
and to further develop programmes between institutions of educational
excellence in technical, vocational and higher education has been
proposed. There is also mention of providing mutual assistance
in the fields of IT, computer, mathematics & science.
A joint working
group is to be established to implement this programme. This will
be chaired on behalf of India by a representative of Department
of Secondary & Higher Education, Ministry of HRD and on behalf
of Guyana, a representative of their Ministry of Education. The
Joint Working Group will also review the implementation of this
programme.
The Educational Programme
is in the form of an umbrella arrangement and would provide a
focussed attention to collaboration in the education sector in
two countries. More specific exchanges under this programme, could
take place on the basis of MoUs to be drawn by counterpart institutions
in the two countries.
